2010 Training Schedule
Sexual Attitude Reassessment (SAR) Workshop

Saturday, August 7 Pasadena, CA
Saturday, September 25 West Palm Beach, FL
Wednesday, November 3 Las Vegas, NV
Saturday, December 4 Charleston, SC

WHAT IS A SAR?
The Sexual Attitude Reassessment workshop (SAR) is a process-oriented, structured group experience to promote participants' awareness of their attitudes and values related to sexuality, and to assist them in understanding how these attitudes and values affect them professionally and personally. Since the primary purpose of a SAR is the examination of attitudes and values, it is not a traditional academic experience designed to disseminate cognitive information, nor is it psychotherapy directed toward the resolution of personal problems.

NEEDS ASSESSMENT and APPLICATION OF THE SAR TRAINING
Many individuals educate or counsel in the area of human sexuality or wish to be trained in the discipline. It is crucial that people who deal with issues of human sexuality be aware of their own attitudes and understand how they may impact their work. The American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors and Therapists (AASECT) requires the completion of an attitude/values training experience as one of the requirements for certification as a sexuality educator, counselor or therapist. Certification is an important part of practicing in the field of sexuality, and candidates most often satisfy this requirement by participation in a Sexual Attitude Reassessment Seminar (SAR). Requirements for certification can be found on the AASECT website at www.aasect.org under the tab For Professionals.

WORKSHOP DESIGN
The SAR is an intensive workshop experience that gives participants an opportunity to examine their own values, beliefs and attitudes on various issues in sexuality. Topics to be explored include developmental sexuality; sexual myths; masturbation; heterosexual, gay, lesbian and bisexual relationships; transgender; alternative relationships; BDSM; disability and aging. In 2004 the AASECT Board of Directors approved the SAR minimum requirement of 10 hours. The new 10 hour format will begin promptly at 8AM and conclude at 6PM. Morning and afternoon refreshment breaks and lunch are included. Participants must attend the entire day (8-6) in order to receive AASECT continuing education credits (10) and documentation of having met the SAR requirement.

2010 SEXUALITY TRAINING

2 Day Sexuality Training

HOW TO INTEGRATE THE BASICS OF SEXUAL ANATOMY and PHYSIOLOGY
and
MEDICAL/HEALTH FACTORS AFFECTING SEXUAL FUNCTION

INTO YOUR PRACTICE OR EDUCATIONAL SETTING

Thur/Fri, August 5-6 Pasadena, CA
Thur/Fri, September 23-24 West Palm Beach, FL
TBD - Mon/Tues, November 1-2 Las Vegas, NV
Thur/Fri, December 2-3 Charleston, SC

NEEDS ASSESSMENT
From Nov 2008-May 2010, I presented 13 one day (6 credits) workshops throughout the US. Participants included medical, nursing and mental health professionals. For some, it was their first sexuality training; others were seasoned clinicians or educators who wanted to update their knowledge; and many wanted to integrate or add sexuality education, counseling and therapy to their practice.

I expanded this training to a 2 day format as a direct result of the evaluations I received from the participants. In a 6 hour workshop, I could barely cover the very basics of sexual anatomy, physiology and the medical/health factors that affect sexual function. The evaluations were clear there is a need to expand on the basics as well as cover the diagnosis and treatment strategies for sexual problems using this information. This 2 day training will be intensive and offer 14 AASECT CE credits that can be used for certification or recertification. Many state licensing boards will accept AASECT credits for license renewal. Please check with your own board for verification.

WORKSHOP INFORMATION
This is a 2 day training for a total of 14 AASECT CE credits. Each 7 hour workshop is from 8AM-5PM with an hour for lunch (on your own). The workshop will present the basics of sexual anatomy and physiology and a variety of medical and health factors that affect sexual function. The perspective for both topics is to teach the participant how to integrate this knowledge into an educational or therapeutic setting.

Day 1 AM Session will cover the basics of human sexual anatomy and physiology and the male and female response cycles. Participants will be introduced to the core content that will provide a foundation for knowledge in male and female sexual functioning. The PM session will cover the basics of how medical and health factors affect sexual function. Topics to be included are illness, disability, medications, hormonal regulation, pregnancy and pregnancy termination, contraception, fertility and sexually transmitted diseases.

Day 2 AM Session will focus on diagnosis and treatment of male and female sexual issues. The PM session will focus on how to integrate the basics of anatomy, physiology, medical and health factors into your current educational or therapeutic setting.
